Solo Pianist: Daniel Barenboim

Piano Concerto No. 3 in C minor, is the stormy one. You won't find the piano whispering gently. No. 3 opens with orchestral drama that is brooding, muscular and defiant, it’s Beethoven in his “heroic” mood. The key of C minor was Beethoven’s favorite for drama, and the first movement is intense and full of energy. The second is lyrical and prayer-like with a quiet emotional center and the finale is lively and defiant, bursting with rhythmic wit and Beethovenian drive, all delivered by Barenboim.
