This was the prestigious closing concert at the Annecy Classic Festival, conducted by Yuri Temirkanov featuring pianist Denis Matsuev. who founded the festival in 2010. The delightful program included Pictures at an Exhibition by Mussorgsky, Elgar's Enigma Variations, and an encore of Moment Musical by Schubert. Matsuev, winner of the International Tchaikovsky Competition, played with his normal charisma and power; Temirkanov is one of the most distinguished 20th century Russian conductors.
