Booker Prize-winning novelist DBC Pierre brings his distinctive voice to Charles Dickens’s Bleak House, one of the great novels of Victorian literature. Dickens’s wonderfully atmospheric opening draws us into a fog-bound London of tangled streets, social inequality and an endless legal case that seems to engulf everyone. Hearing this celebrated passage read by a modern novelist adds a new dimension to Dickens’s extraordinary language, revealing its rhythm and surprisingly contemporary edge.
