This Europakonzert brings together Zubin Mehta and the Berliner Philharmoniker for the orchestra’s annual celebration of culture. The program spans Beethoven’s Fidelio Overture, Boris Blacher’s Variations on a Theme by Paganini, Stravinsky’s colorful Petrushka and Dvorak’s Slavonic Dance No. 8. A remarkable 14-year-old Sarah Chang appears as soloist in the first movement of Paganini’s Violin Concerto No. 1, capturing the young virtuoso at the beginning of an extraordinary international career.
