The Berliner Philharmoniker, under Sir Simon Rattle, presented a superb selection of symphonic rhapsodies at this summer concert. Symphonic rhapsodies blend the free-form, expressive nature of a rhapsody with the complexity of a symphony. The program included Chabrier's "Espana," Delius's "Brigg Fair," Rachmaninov's "Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini," Dvorak's "Slavic Rhapsody No.1," Debussy's "Clarinet Rhapsody," Enescu's "Romanian Rhapsody No.1," and Prokofiev's "The Love for Three Oranges."
