Kae Tempest is an acclaimed British poet, playwright, novelist, recording artist and performer, known for combining spoken-word poetry with music and vivid contemporary storytelling. In 2020 they changed their name, when they announced that they were non-binary and would use they/them pronouns. They shortened “Kate” to “Kae” because the new name felt more consistent with their identity. Tempest said the letter K also carried associations with communication, curiosity, adaptation and courage.
