“Las Vegas” follows an elderly couple in Las Vegas, the city where we understand they spent their youth. They wander through the glittering, garish landscape of hotels, neon, and showgirls, reveling in a shared nostalgia and confronting the passage of time. As Puccini’s “Nessun dorma” swells on the soundtrack, the sequence ends not with tragedy but with bittersweet transcendence: the aria’s triumphant cry of “Vincero!” (“I will triumph!”) presenting a love persisting through age and illusion.
