The Berlin Philharmonic performs in a different European city each year. For 2008, the stunning Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow served as the venue. Under the direction of the dynamic Sir Simon Rattle, the program featured two monumental works: Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 in D minor, complete with vocal soloists and choir for the triumphant "Ode to Joy," and Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3 in D minor, with the extraordinary Yefim Bronfman as the piano soloist.
