Richard Wagner, Sir Edward Elgar, and Johannes Brahms are the focus of this beautiful concert: all major contributors to the Romantic era and to the development of orchestration and harmony. Wagner's operatic innovations and use of leitmotifs influenced Elgar and Brahms. Conducted by Daniel Barenboim with cellist Alisa Weilerstein, the program included: Wagner: Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Prelude to Act III, Sir Edward Elgar: Cello Concerto in E minor and Brahms: Symphony No. 1 in C minor.
