The 2013 Aldeburgh Festival featured an open-air performance of Benjamin Britten’s “Peter Grimes” on Aldeburgh Beach, directed by Tim Albery. Alan Oke, Giselle Allen, and David Kempster starred, with the North Sea backdrop enhancing the opera’s themes of isolation and struggle. The Britten-Pears Orchestra, conducted by Steuart Bedford, provided pre-recorded music and the cast performed live. This innovative production celebrated Britten’s centenary and was a magnificent immersive experience.
